In the story "Lush" by Natasha Friend Sam is going through a very difficult time. Her family is falling apart all around her. Sam's dad is an alcoholic and her mom never gives her the attention she needs. while reading this story i have noticed that Sam's character has started to change drastically. At first she was always focused on school and protecting her little brother from the reality of their life at home, but now Sam is seeming to give up. She refuses to feel anything about the situation with her dad. The experience Sam is going through made me realize that when times are tough, people (especially children) will do anything to attain the attention that their parents are unable to give them.
