PNL 9/13/10

Why do good people do bad things things? In the book Lush by Natasha Friend this question is constantly on my mind. Sam, a teenage girl is the only thing holding her family together. Her little brother is very dependent on her and looks up to her in every way. Sam seems to do it all, the cleaning, cooking, watching her brother and managing school, but one night sam did something extremely out of character. She lied to her friends that she was babysitting her brother and lied to her parents that she was sleeping over at a friend's house, when really she attended a high school party. Sam is only thirteen and in eighth grade, she was not only too young for this environment but she lied to her family and friends. I do not understand why Sam did this. All i know is that I was very surprised with her actions. She never seemed like that type of girl to care about popularity and being cool, so this behavior really confused me.
